DACA To Develop Notice LettersIn an effort to strengthen DACA contractor member's position regarding adverse job site conditions, the association is developing a series of "notice" letters. The focus of the letters will allow members to utilize standard language when addressing similar jobsite conditions that require written information from the subcontractor to the general contractor. The notice letters will address some of the most common jobsite conditions that DACA contractors encounter. Jobsite conditions that will be addressed include when a building is not dried-in, no controlled air, water damage, damage by others, out of sequence work, floors out of tolerance. When the notice letter project is complete, DACA members will be furnished with form copies that can be transferred to company letterhead and personalized for the project. DACA Membership MeetingWhat is in store for the 2008 North Texas construction industry? DACA members will hear a forecast on the economy at the November 14th DACA Membership Meeting. Alan Pierce, Chief Investment Officer for the Wright Family Office, Inc., will brief attendees on real estate trends and commercial development for the region. Companies to Feel Impact of Margin TaxSome say it is bad, some say it could be a lot worse. Companies are having their accountants sort out the good and the bad of margin tax that was created by a special session of the Texas Legislature. Generally, construction subcontractors faired better than most when the Texas Construction Association (TCA) worked with the House and Senate leadership to gain and amendment to the tax bill that allows subcontractors to deduct material cost (in addition to labor) when filing the margin tax.
